A call for youngsters at East Cleveland’s Primary Schools has led to a winning entry and a VIP invite to turn on the Christmas lights this year. Talented Naomi Wilkinson from Saltburn Primary School wowed judges with her depiction of fire safety around Christmas when she and fellow pupils entered a Cleveland Fire Brigade poster competition. Dozens of youngsters took part and now, as a reward for her efforts, Naomi will be invited to switch on the Christmas lights in Saltburn. The switch on will happen on Saturday 27 November after 5pm, but before that Naomi and her friends will be at Saltburn Fire Station to meet Santa Claus. Paul Thompson, Watch Manager for Saltburn Fire Station, thought up the idea. He said:
“Naomi’s work was just brilliant but to be honest the judges were very impressed with how well the children interpreted the message and delivered it in a bright and colourful way.

“Christmas can be a high fire risk time for families in particular and it’s important we get the message across to young people to be careful around candles and Christmas lights.”
